The Ford Motor Company is the US’s second-largest multinational automaker (behind General Motors). During the financial crisis in 2007, Ford came close to bankruptcy, but it has since returned to profitability.

In 2004, Ford introduced the Escape Hybrid. With this vehicle, Ford was third to market with a Hybrid EV and the first hybrid electric SUV to market. In 2017, Ford announced the company will invest $4.5 billion in further development of a plug-in EV by 2020. The Ford Focus Electric was introduced in 2011 and has an EPA rated range of 76 mi (122 km).
